I went with my mom and son to the park and decided to bring the detector. Thought maybe I'd find something. I searched for about 45 minutes over some old hotspots I had previously hit. Nothing. Had a pouch full of vodka bottles, nutra-slim can, Poland Spring bottles, plastic bags, and nada else.

Got ready to go and my 1 1/2 year old boy wandered over to a spot I'd previously pulled a 40-something Merc. Went over and scanned and BOOM!

It read 12-46/47 at 6". Went down 6", then 8", the 10"...nothing. Thought hmmmm.... Rescanned and 12-48, 01-48....Then I knew it was goin to be good. I gingerly moved another inch or two of dirt and saw the rim. Sideways and edge-up.

At that point I called my mom over and had my son look in the hole. He saw it and grabbed that sucker! Dropped it and I saw the eagle.

Barber 1/2 Dollar minted in the great year of 1903 in San Francisco.

I'm especially stoked since my mom was there and my son pulled his first silver from the ground. Funny part was he did not give it up. He ran off!!!!

Lol. Happy hunting and just when you think you don't want to detect your local park again, go do it. View attachment 1155892

Just outstanding, Scrappy. A beautiful coin all of us hope to score some day.
My only Barbers are dimes....so far!
One question.....which machine were you using, the T2SE or the CTX?
A machine that can find a halfD ON EDGE at 10 inches is a real gem!

I was using the CTX. In all, the final depth was 12" down, on an almost a complete vertical edge. Unbelievable reading from my machine. Yes it messed up the depth but the reading was solid. First it said a depth of 6" which I quickly found to be untrue. It's the 2nd half I've found on-edge. I trust that CTX on any site with full confidence. (Full disclosure) I use the T2 for fast, deep, non-polluted sites and that's an absolute gem too...

thanks George. I mark all of my finds with the location and who I found it with. I figure someday the kids will be interested in coins and relics they helped find.

Nice coin Scrappy, love to see the mud on the hands

Thanks Rob. I know it takes quite a coin to impress you. Lol. Did you find out anything about that awesome cast brass figure from that Victorian area you dug?

That's quite an honor Higgy. I went back for a quick double check and pulled another Merc funny enough. '42
