Hola Don José, empirically 'we' agree that you are still here - or we are a sorry lot of ghosts.
Were the white clouds a way point, or an end point?
Speculation
personally I'm going for more warmth than clouds
I was out only once, an induced coma while they drilled holes in my head, and knew nothing. Being brought back was excessively interesting, but sure did induce wonderment - absolutely disconnected.

I believe what happens after death is a reality one can't afford not to be sure now...For me the bible makes it crystal clear..

If that is the case amigo Old Crow is going to spend a long time in purgatory.:tongue3:

Crow

As usual you have your sense of humor Crow...unfortunately the bible does not teach about purgatory and it is just an invention of men and the traditions in the church...according to holy writ, there are only two possibilities the moment when one departs...8-)

Hola Amigos there are two subjects that one stays away from politics and religion. Just be happy in a free society you have the freedom choose your own journey in life and into here after.

So grab a brew I have another story for you about an island and a treasure looted by natives and beachcombers over many years during the 1830's, 1840's and 1850's. A tale of murder misery and death and a treasure hidden on an island in the Western Pacific.

So will you join me around the campfire I have a yarn for ya and even that Deadbeat love-able raggedy old crow might also put his 2 cents into the tale. So many years its hard to remember all the stories.

I recall this one perked the interest of our esteemed Don Jose

Join me for a brew?

Gidday Amigos

Those events first started in a era of the islands where a lusty sailor could have his wild way with the island girls for the price of a rusty nail.

Oh yeah Giggedy! :laughing7:

Hola Raggedly old Crow Amigo you may of been in your element back in those days.

But in reality life was incredibly hard. Not just in the civilized world but also in uncivilized regions of the world. Life and death walked hand in hand. And death back then did not need a coroners report it was an accepted fact of life experienced day buy day.

Now amigos I hope my words take you back through time to another time and place. In fact the story begins in the island of my secret hideaway where I live today. Today the island is part of a lose confederation but in reality is virtually left to fend for itself. It is of no interest of the superpowers today having no oil no wealth to extract so we are virtually forgotten with virtually no tourism.

However deep in the history of the island in question was first settled by the Lapita culture from Indonesia and native sea peoples from Taiwan, then over time the island was settled sea traveling wave Melanesian and Polynesia settlers. While none above mention cultures totally disappeared they just merged into one group of islanders living in 5 or 6 different tribal chiefdom's fighting tribal wars over and and resources on the island. In essence a stone age culture but had pottery skills first brought to island via the Lapita people. The islanders had subsistence farming and hunting and gathering that helped create clan like villages around the shores of the islands.

As the population grew. Today the island has about 6000 people. In the past some estimates was to about 30000 at one point so did the strain on resources and various tribal chieftain's went to war over resources. Thus a long time of tribal infighting over ever more scarce resources. In an environment where food was very scarce every resource had to be exploited to survive, And one resource was human beings thus the rise of cannibalism. However the raids between various clans was not the intention to annihilate the clans because the each clan would breed back up providing human flesh for the next clan.

Wars was like what Me and Crow saw in New Guinea was more tribal skirmishes. Pitched battles with sticks spears and stones with the odd villager clubbed to death and dragged off and cooked and eaten. The clan of victim would fight back tit for tat. This went on for hundreds of years. Until one clan discovered the concept of building defensive stone walls around their village and over time they became more stronger than the other clans of the island and started subjugating more of the island.

Its was in this era that their whole world of the island changed when a strange sail was seen on the horizon?

Just to give a deeper picture of survival in these tropical environments. Generally it is hot and very humid. The sun bakes you and most precious thing is fresh water amigos. When your tongue sticks to the roof of your mouth and your lips blister from the want of water. Your whole day is concerned with hunting and gathering that burns up calories. Dehydration creeps up on you amigos.

However human beings are very adaptable species you either adapt to the environment or die. It is a calories marathon matching the rate expended to the rate gained.

While we are all guilty and have little thought on whats really like to catch our own food as go to the fridge for a snack or cool drink on a whim. But in those days it was none of the creature comforts we are used to now. Everything took effort and a huge amount of energy expended.

I even feel guilty as I type this as I snack on some Doritios.

I have experienced times with virtually no food and water. And remember the shock the body goes into. To the point hunger and first to point of hallucinating. My stomach muscles contracted like if a belt had been tightened around my gut. I lost one third of my body weight over a very short period of time. Then finally finding food only to be sick because the body rejected it. Pushing body beyond the means. But these actions was not by choice but by the situation one finds themselves in. So for a overweight lazy westerner who had the privileges of a soft bed, air conditioning fringes with food and water. It was hard lesson to learn and a real shock to the system what subsistence living can really be like.

So my respect for these people has gone through the roof amigo. Those natives back then survived no metal tool none of gadgets and tools we have today. Everything had to be fashioned from their bare hands.

These peoples not only survived but grew into a people with their own language and culture a region. All the early aspects of a society we could recognize in our own societies today.

I cannot imagine the culture shock those Islanders went through when they first saw these strangers. It would be like us meeting Aliens from another world.

the tag team returns
a general question while in the preamble, did the natives always fish?
I understand they got there by boat/raft, did they always use boats or become land-bound over time?
and fish from the shore?

am asking because not all shore dwellers fish

Hola amigo

I cannot answer as I do not know as I can only relate to what is known. Archeologists found shell middens on the island. But that does not prove that at all tribes on the island hunted shellfish? Ancient shell fish hooks and Polynesian fish traps was present in the shallows. But today most of the population lives around the coast. Most had a large source of protein from fish and pigs.

As for boats they have always traditionally got the skills taught from father to son However many seaman ship skills have been lost since WW2 . However they do have a natural talent to sailing and natural in the water. For many years they had out rigger canoes hollowed out of trees. But most of all they was very adaptable people and made use of what materials was available.

Giddevening Kanacki it's got to be late in your part of the world?

I have been given a week to decide if I would like to be nominated. It's an honoray role to fill in because two board members have passed away. A position to help get the club through the next 12 months. I have 2 of the 3 requirement although they offer training in understanding the legal requirements of holding a gaming licence. Although my strengths are not in hospitality industry but mining and OHS and industrial relations and business management. My role is more advisory and voting on proposals put forward by the CEO and other board members. Its a 12 month stint on the board.

But I do not think I will take up the offer. As I keep telling myself I am retired. I have enough commitments. I do not feel I want to add to them.

My apologies amigos I will be busy next week. Every day I am busy and they said you have nothing to do when you retire?

Enjoy the yarn kanacki tells amigos. It's interesting but by all means there are things we just do not know?

Not everything in those days was written down.

Cheers Crow
