moctezuma ,was the 9th ruler of the aztec empire, located in what now in the country of mexico. his primary claim to fame is his was in rule at the time of the arrival of hernan cortes and the beginning of the spanish conquest. his name is also associated with a legend of a vast treasure removed from tenochitlan (mexico city) and hidden in caves many miles to the north and never again found. mexican historians and archeologists give the location in a series of caves north ,north west of cuidad victoria, tamualipas. although english researchers name a variety of locations, usually in a close proximity to where they live. but there is no golden chain associated with moctezuma. the only golden chain legend i know of is that of huayna capac, its a chain or rope some 800 feet long, most believe that it was thrown into a lake ,most believe it was lake urcos, others think it is hidden in tunnels running underground under the city of cusco, in peru.there have been several formal searches in the lake ,even by jacques cousteau. most researchers they think its there but under @ 30 feet of silt.there's a lot of info available on the net for both moctezuma and huyana capac.
