I decided that since I got some work done around the place and had a less than glowing follow up report from the specialist on Friday, I figured that it was time to get some mental therapy done and the church site was the easiest thing I could come up with. One week seems like a longtime for some reason when a site produces and I was going to let this site go until a late fall return hunt or even the spring when the undergrowth was down. So it was get up early and at the site just after 7am doing a 4 1/2 marathon brush moving site survey of where the finds start and end all with a 5in coil to fit in between fallen or stacked branches I was rewarded first with a 1930 penny then with the brass cuff link and the 1920's Wheatie. Then it was a dry spell for quite a while I worked around where the church sat, not a target to be had in the nail/metal infested area. Usually I can sniff something out of a site but this area has beaten me three times in a row now, so I'll leave it until spring and then give it another try or a sift in the foundation area.
So after getting some bug dope on again, and having some fluids I decided on spending some of the morning going in around the fallen brush, first I hit under some branches was the 1920 Quarter, pried back on the shovel of dirt and out pops the quarter onto the surface, in wall the yrs digging this has only happened a couple of times where flies out with ease, first thought is that there's a pile of them down there-no didn't happen.

Next target was even easier the 1914 dime laying right under about three inches of leaves and twigs in a shallow impression, scraped away the surface and there he laid like the photo shows, now this is getting too easy and this has only happened twice for me, the other was a LC laying on a slope of a ravine just under the leaves.

The last find was the 1935 penny under the end of a log, rolled the log and it was buried just in from the end. So I was pleased with the results of the labour of crushing down piles of dead branches, kicking piles over to get in and around them a little easier. This should keep the itch scratched until the crops start coming off in a few weeks.

Nice finds, always liked the older Canadian silver with the maple leaf wreaths. Only detected one worn down Queen Victoria dime, but the cents pop up now and again. Sifted a '39 yesterday actually, heh.

Would it be possible to get a hard metal-tined rake (versus spring steel leaf rake) back there to clear some of the brush? Seems productive enough to be worth a shot. I've done it in an old park on the margins of the currently-wooded areas and it has worked pretty well.

The brush was old so it crush pretty flat, so if was even a null or iron grunt I'd go to ground level.

PEPPER IS THERE ANYTHING ON THE FACE OF THE CUFF LINK ?

The face seems to be something other than brass like the part that goes through the button hole, and it's eaten up to the point where there's little left for detail.

Thanks Dave, it doesn't always work out for finds, but when it does it makes it worth while and keeps the passion going. Yup the older quarters are always a nice find, especially when they pop out of the ground like this one did.:)

Thanks 46Wheat, I find that a hunt out in an area with nobody around is a great way of clearing the mind, the finds do help things along.:)
