Guys, I found all 3 in the same field about 4 months ago. Even though they're beat up and have holes I still consider them among my best finds. The 2 half reales are 1805 and 1807 the 1 reale appears to be 178? Had a great day in that field as I also found around 10 flat buttons. Thanks for looking and hope you enjoy. Swingin

Great finds!
I just found a 177? (probably 5) 2 Reale, but it was in poor condition, no holes. I cant read from your picture, but does the 1 Reale say Carolus.III. or Carolus.IIII.? IF it is charles 3 then the possible dates for the coin are 1772 to 1783, which would confirm your 178? hypothesis. Since I did not know much about Reales before finding mine, I don't know when Charles 4 Reales were made, someone told me they weren't made till the 1800's (again further date confirmation) one way or another.

I can see on the reverse for the first Reale pictured that you have a Mexican Mintmark. Just past the R (for Reale) there is an M with a small o above it. Likely all of yours are Mexican. Beyond that there is lettering which tells you specifically where the coin would have been minted (like 2 or 3 letters), if you can read these (I can't on mine) you can look up exactly where it would have been minted.

GREAT Finds

What was the purpose for the holes ? Was it to link them together on a chain?

Nice reales!, I have only found two, the people who lived there must of had some money to lose all that silver and not many buttons. They must not have worked hard to not lose many buttons but had enough money to lose them nice finds.
