Yesterday I was able to hunt on two Farm Parcels from the road to 200' in. one parcel was in Sidney along the 357 and the other was just before Franklin Village on 357. I will be going back and forth due to how quick owners call me to give me permission to scan and dig.
Yesterdays dig I found;
  • 1 Spanish Silver Reale (can't find the amount on the coin, but clearly see OM on it )

  • a US 3 cent Silver I guess

  • 1 New Jersey Copper (based on what little I could read and see on the coin and matching them to coins of the period)
    20220828_095240.jpg
    20220828_095221.jpg
  • a large one cent cut in half (the only thig I can really pick up is the word cent)

    20220828_120038.jpg
  • Some sort of old gilded Buckle (I guess)

  • old silver plated spoon (found on 1st parcel)

Awesome!!! Congrats!!!!

I just saw your post and have identified your NJ copper. It is a 1787 Maris 63-r, Rarity 5 Rare. I will add it to the survey, it is only the 5th 1787 Maris 63-r in the survey which now has almost 1200 reported found that have been identified by variety. Since the survey is recorded by State and County found in, am I correct in entering NY and Delaware County?

Hi, Thank you for identifying it!!!! Yes I am in Upstate New York, and found that just between Unadilla (on the Delaware County side) and Franklin. I do have another NJ Copper I found on my property. But it is very degraded and there are some matching points as to the other one you identified. I am away on business but will be back tomorrow and will send you as many clear pics as I can take.

Some very nice historical artifacts and a good variety! I find it amazing that Don can determine the variety on a corroded coin like this one. I found one that he ID'd and mine was very worn but not corroded much.
I was in the Southern Tier quite a bit when I lived near Rochester but was not metal detecting then. Seems like a productive area.

I am seni-retired, and for every good find I will go days upon days finding trash, but I would not have it any other way! It's all in the hunt.
