I've been desperate to find some new sites lately. My honey holes are drying up, so lots of research and quick test hunts. Most are not panning out. So decided to hit a new area of my local community park. (It's huge, over 400 acres, was several farms back in the 1800's.)

Used an old historical map overlayed on Google Earth. This farm site is about a mile into the park, so I have passed on this one until now. Forest is really overgrown so used the map and found an area that was flat and was accessible. ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1496976305.745522.jpg First target was bouncing between zincoln and penny, but this deep in the woods could not possibly be a modern coin, but potentially a shotgun shell top or some small farm scrap metal. Was very excited to see roundness in the hole. ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1496976488.423831.jpg thought that i finally found the elusive large cent. Used a dry toothbrush, but could get nowhere, still unidentifiable. Did the lemon juice and salt method and after a few soakings I was able to ID the 2 cent coin. ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1496976855.994745.jpg ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1496976870.923039.jpg
Unfortunately the side with the date is really toasty, might try some other methods to get the date out. ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1496976970.165880.jpg Looks like 186_. My oldest coin!
Also found a nearby stream bed absolutely filled with old glassware, plates, jars, bottles. Literally hundreds of items, a project for another day.

Good luck out there!

faster than finding two , half the work digging and filling back up the two holes. Great find ! More could be about the same area.

Thx Deershed. I went through a 2 hour process where I initially thought it was a large cent, then half cent, then uncovered the shield and thought it might be a nickel, then more was unveiled and thought it was a 3 cent shield, then finally the "2" emerged. Silvers are a lot easier to ID...
