Good afternoon I found this button MD today...on the back it says-The Austin Company Providence RI I have been doing some research and my guess is WW1 maybe or is it later. Thank you

I did some "googleing" and all the info I see points to WW1 period on your button. Maybe the Austin co. made them for WW2 also?

Your button appears to have "black finish" on it, which was applied to Great Seal US Army buttons from World War One to 1923. Although that version remained the Official Regulation version until 1923, there were so many left over after that war, there was very little need to manufacture more of the "black finish" ones. Thus, your button very-very probably was made during 1917-1918.Also, having "The Austin Co. Providence RI" dates it to the World War One era. Congratulations... in just a few more years your first dug button will be a 100-year-old one -- and not many diggers' first-ever button is even nearly that old.
