Finally found my first silver coin today! It's a 1918 Canadian 5 Cent piece! This was probably only my 6th hunt here in Canada since I got my ACE 350! I hit a park area on the "old side" of town, this area has seen regular activity since at least 1800. Dug the usual junk and 5 pennies, one was a Lincoln Memorial.

Thanks very much for looking and Happy Hunting everyone! :icon_thumright:

Dave

Thanks mate! It's amazing how small these coins were . . . maybe only 15mm across!

Thanks very much for your kind words Brandy. This "park" has a long and varied history to it. It originally had houses built on it back in the early 1800's. There was an electric railcar turnaround located on it and an amusement park was there every summer from the late 1800's until the 1950's. It's now public park property and I hope to find a lot more over the course of the year!

I remember my first silver, you will too. Even today, I love the finding of silver almost better than gold jewelry.
Way to Go! That trash pile looks like mine, I dig lots of trash.
That is a great spot you got...find the picnic grove.

Thanks for your post Art! ;D I'd be happy just to find another silver.
Thankfully here in Canada, the govt. made silver coins up until 1967
and halfway through 1968! :icon_thumright:

Me again,
5 mm?? that's a tough find, similar to US 3C.
but the small size meant they were also easily lost.
now that you've broken the ice, there's more on the way ;D

Thanks buddy! The location I'm currently hunting has been hunted before for many years, but I'm trying to look "outside the box" at the areas less hunted.

Thanks for your words of support windage! :icon_thumright: If there's one thing I've learned from the members here on Tnet, is that I need to dig everything! Our Canadian coins up here, especially the modern $1 & $2 coins all register in the low ferrous range. Of course so do all the nails, screws, chicken wire and other garbage!! :laughing7:

Thanks,
Dave

Morning Herbie :hello:

I just remeasured the coin and your right, it's actually 15mm across! These coins were extremely thin as well. I think you've found a couple of these before haven't you? :icon_scratch:
The first time I measured it I must have not had my glasses on! :laughing7:

Thanks again for the words of support buddy! Have a great weekend!
