My first gold

Was out at a park yesterday and dug up this gem. It's my first gold item. Heck I haven't even found any silver yet.

It says 10KP on one side of the band and MGRB on the other side. I'm assuming 10KP means karat plumb but I have no idea what MGRB. Stands for. Possibly a brand or something. I'm thinking its a blue topaz but I can't be sure. Prob not worth much but it fits the wife's finger so she got a special treat.

Thanks for reading
Michael

Congrats and welcome!
I would think that would make the Mrs want her own machine! :laughing7:

I had just gotten a minelab xterra 305 from a pawn shop the day before. That's what I found it with. Sadly, there was a problem with the keypad. I think the power button kept sticking on so every time you pressed the pinpoint or any other key the machine powered off. We ended up taking it back so now I'm in the market for another MD.

Haha she has her own machine. Actually I was hunting a few yards away from her and she had to pee so she walked about 100 yards to the restroom so I just kept searching right around where she was and found it :-)

I have never found gold with the metal detector, but I have found a 1/4 oz 14k necklace on the surface, a 14k small diamond earring, a hollow 10k earring (Worthless), and a 10k hollow earring at the Coinstar (Worthless).

Yes.... The Mrs definitely has her own machine! I think I'm more addicted than he is.... Although he smokes me just about every time we go...

If Minelab would fix the keypad, I would go back to the pawn shop and buy it back at a discounted price of course, since it is broken and send it in for repairs, hopefully they would repair it for free or at a moderate price.

I did email them about it. I had heard that minelab was one of the worst as far as customer service but in my engagement with them it was fairly pleasant. They said it would most likely need a new display panel. Which they said I would have to send in to fix, although I dunno why. It looks like it's just an adhesive backed overlay. Anyway, with shipping and parts and repair it was going to be around $100. If that was the only problem. When I took it apart I noticed a capacitor was slightly leaking and the water dot on the circuit board was red. So I decided not to take my chances and returned it.

We paid $200 for it and it was going to cost $100 to fix it so my lovely and beautiful and amazing wife let me put that $300 towards a new one.

So I got a ring and a new MD out of the deal so I still feel like I came out ahead.

Great Find man!...You always remember your First!!....Its wild because Automatically I would assume "10KP" would have meant plated.

But thats what happens when One assumes
