Today I went out of town to pick up the three boxes I mentioned earlier in the week from a different distribution center to test the waters there. The results was 3 SKUNKS! Alot of brand new 1996's and 2000's.

While in the same town I picked up 24 hand rolled from another bank. All of them in the same type wrappers....I asked the lady how long she has had them......she said since yesterday....lol. Some guy dropped them off yesterday!!! 24 SKUNK rolls!

I did pick up two boxes from my regular branch prior to leaving town which yielded 14 Keepers....a few more casino halves.

On the way home I cashed in all of these rejects and picked up a box of quarters......SKUNK.......and a box of dimes which contained a 1934-D Merc....my first Merc. In the same roll was a 1953 Canadian dime. It looks like silver....sounds like silver so it must be silver....ha! I am not familiar with foreign coins so you experts please chime in if it is not silver. It stuck out like a sore thumb just like the Merc.

Tomorrow is another day...........

2-66's
5-67's
6-68's
1-69
1-34-D Dime

15 Keepers

Nice Merc. You need to dust off that MD and find one in the ground, thats a thrill. Nice on the silver Canuck also.

Your absolutely right about that AW. I went a couple of weekends back but still no silver from mother earth. It is only a matter of time though.

that canadian dime has 68 cents worth of silver in it, so 58 cents profit! ;D

Thanks for the info CC & OR. It's a keeper then!

HAHA, Careful with the canadian stuff. My sister came to Kentucky about two weeks ago and lives near Detroit Michigan. When she got here she was going to roll all kinds of change and take it to the bank for some extra spending cash while in Florida. Well I told her my bank has a free coin counter and I would just take it in for her. Well when they went to bed my addiction kicked in and I brought the suitcase full of change in and started going through it. Found 19 wheats, but when i got to the silver I thought, SCORE!!! NOPE, turned out the handful of dimes I was looking at was in fact a lot of canadian dimes, worth zilch!! LoL, lesson learned here, things aren't always what they appear. By the way, she lives 32 mi from the bridge to canada!

Great merc and Canadian dime!

I guess one man's trash is another's treasure ... I often let people pass through when I'm at the Coin Star machine on Saturdays. I always ask to look through their rejects. People are thrilled when I buy their Canadian off them and I'm pleased because it helps me fill up my Canadian albums.

Congrats on your first Merc find.

The Canadian dimes are silver up thru 1968. The 68's I use a magnet on, if it sticks it is the nickel content type, it it doesn't it is silver.

On a side note I read once about a guy in Canada who instead of using his detector would drag a powerful magnet using his small boat just off a beach and he would collect all kinds of modern coins. I imagine it should work with modern plated steel coins too.

Happy Hunting,

Scott (Mid-Mich)

So is the 1934-D a large mintmark or small mintmark? :)

Post a closeup picture of the mintmark if you aren't sure and I'll try to determine it.

Thanks again. I was pretty stoked about the Merc. It is kinda like the Barber halves, you always hope, but never really expect to find one.
