With all the miles I put on in a week doing metal detecting, I found this in an overlooked (and overtrashed) park about 5 miles from home that I've hit many times. Pretty thrilled about this one!

By the way, most of the letters of "Liberty" are still readable. Actually... all letters are visible, although a couple are pretty worn.

Nice one. Hope you can find more oldies.
Thanks. I have plenty of oldies, older than this. But this is quite rare, and in demand, apparently. I'm taking it to a coin show tomorrow to see what they say about having it graded, but I don't sell my finds, so its monetary value, to me, is really just out of curiosity.

Took it to a coin show today and had several dealers look at it and give me their opinions (these are not official gradings, of course). First... they were all obviously impressed. I got several different opinions regarding the value, but $750-$800 was repeated by three of them. Another went much higher... $1200-$1350, while yet another said, $500-$1000 depending on how it was graded by a professional grading company. Several noted that it had been "wiped" (cleaned), but that it had been done a long time ago. Not one suggested that it may have been dug by a metal detectorist.

I decided that I will pay for a professional grading after our next club meeting.

Will you be, seriously?

I will be out of town on Saturday, but if you're around on Sunday, we could hit it. It is a tough hunt, though. But I get at *least* some older Wheaties almost every time I go there. Today I got a New York Militia Indian Wars button (or more likely a fashion button made to look like one, but still old) just like these

I think cudamark is just pulling your chain as he would like to hit the area where that little jewell came outta. I know I would!

Don't worry. If I took him to a park to metal detect, I'd be pulling his chain too, if he thought it was the same park. I didn't just fall off the turnip truck.
