Here's my hard stone stuff. With the exception of the small celt, all found by me. The celt was found by my dad WAY back when. in CT. He didn't know what it was until a couple months ago! Addad a couple pics of my 'chunker' collection. Those pesky rocks, knapped all around the outside. Shaped more like a turtle than anything. Utilitarian gems! Thanks for looking! Yakker

That is some great hardstone. Those axes and celts can be finds of a life time for many. You have to pick up the pesky rocks to study. That is my excuse.

Mine too Tn. And they are definitely finds of a lifetime. I gasped when I found each. I don't expect to find any more, but if I do, I'm a luckydog! My dream it so find a bannerstone one day. One day... Yak

Nice collection. What is the first one? Its got some nice work on it.

First one is interesting, no? And huge- and heavy. I found it in the water (me kayak's sinking!!) along w/ a chunk of similar rock almost in a half-pipe. I'll take a pic when the snow melts- it's outside. But to me, it looks like one heck of a tool for carving out a canoe- burn/carve/burn some more, carve, repeat... If one were to try farming w/ such a thing, you'd be torn up w/i the hour(!) or at least, *I* would... :0

And thanks all for the nice words! Nice to be a presence here! Yak

Looks like a wedge to me. Like something to split wood with but its just a guess.

Could be, Rock. It certainly is sharp enough- Y.

Great finds thank you so much for sharing.
TN is definitely correct when it comes to my area ...finding a complete hardstone artifact is quite an accomplishment where I am.

Gator- ya know, because I almost exclusively search waterways, so I don't have much. Most seem to come from fields (damage or not- luck of the draw). I was REALLY lucky w/ the 3/4 hasped 7 1/4 in axe- found at dusk, riverside- along w/ millions of rocks- no sand, and covered in algae. I don't know how I found it. The broad one washed out of a bank. Bits and pieces found in my 1 and only field are broken frags, but evidence of more (hopefully). Did you, by any chance, take a look at my bone frame/post? there's one bone that looks a lot like one you showed a while back- hollow and carved out at one end for hasping, I think. Would love your opinion on that one. Part of it almost seemed petrified. The non-'petrified' part cracked as it dried. I should have taken better care w/ that- but honestly don't know how to dry out things like that w/o damaging... Here the pic from the other post:

Wow.. How did I miss those?
Nice frame! And that sure does look a lot like a bone handle.
If the bone is not stable enough to dry out without damaging it... Don't let it dry out be for stabilizing it.
..... Mix white glue and water .... and soak at least 24hrs for small items.

There we go! Thanks, Gator. I thought my piece looked a bit like your examples. I learn more about shell and bone- similar to things in my area- from you. It's really nothing like the amazing things out west- or northern plains. Preesh! Yak

aaaand... thanks for the tip. I'll remember that next time:thumbsup:. Yak

You have some nice hardstone artifacts. Those are hard to come by in my area. Thanks for showing

Maybe so, SCrocks, but then, your avatar makes me drool! :happysmiley: Thanks! Yak
