My Mill Creek Chert Spade

Here is the spade I found in 2010. I was walking along the river with a friend when I found it. I had found a nice point about 30 minutes before this. I was heading back to the car getting ready to call it a bust since I only found 1 point. I guess that isn't a bust though. Anyways I saw this thing about 60 feet from me laying in some trash that got washed up during the last flood. I thought it was a piece of trash! When I got to it and bent down I almost died. I ran my hand across it and I knew I had just made the find of my life!

The top isnt broken. It was a seam in the material. It has nice polish from use on the bit and nice polish on the area that was hafted. It made my year

As you may well know, spades/hoes and axe heads are my favorite finds. That, my friend, is a fine example, of what to look for in a spade. Nice find my friend! Nice!

briastow, what part of the country are you in? I have 2-3 pieces just like that from S. Illinois. Nice find! Don't think mine are the same material tho. I'll try to post pictures of them tonight.

Through my wife's family, we own land out in S. Illinois, but live in NC. Have been lucky to find a few things there but the pieces I have that resemble your piece were given to me by my father inlaw who grew up out there.
