My second bigboy !

Lead roundball that is ;D I found one .74 cal last fall here in portland . Then this one today . My second from Portland . I never found larger than .69 in my 2 and a half years detecting in Bangor . The other ball found today is a .577 . Has anyone come across this funky chain link . It's not iron as you can see from the rest of the chain . But it dosen.t appear to be brass either :icon_scratch: and peweter makes no sense :dontknow: I always find a few old relics at this field . This being my third trip there . Twice last fall and then today . I have yet to pull a coin from this field but from my finds I can't help believe there isn't an oldie or two still there Thanks for looking ! MaineRelic

Re: My second bigboy !

Those large caliber musketballs usually are associated with Brown Bess muskets, so there may have been a military presence there at one time. I have seen and found those chain connectors (for lack of a better word). I have found them individually and have seen them connecting two chains.

Good Finds ! I think I was told that piece on the chain is from a well pump.

I was told the same thing just this spring from the farmer who's land I found it on. He seemed to know what everything I found was.

Nice finds MR. The Brown Bess ball makes sense for your area. I have found a few of the Big Boy balls measuring .75 inches diameter in CW sites in Tennessee. They were used in the 1842 Muskewtoon pistol. HH, Quindy.
