Finally got out for my first hunt. I got exactly 30 minutes to get out (sorry Mark, 30 mins isnt much time) this afternoon. Went to the sand volleyball court in my subdivision. I now have my first .13 worth of clad, 3 rusty nails and a hulk. The hulk showed up as a pull tab.
My observations:
-Swinging the detector for a day will require some Alleve
-Kids like asking questions about metal detectors
-The "pin pointer" on my Ace 250 will take a little learning - thought it would make the ground transparent
-No matter the tone, when it rings I got excited
-I now understand that whole "practice" thing Garrett talks about

Glad I got out and can't wait to get out again. There's a silver coin out there waiting for me.

Good starting out finds! Better to start at the bottom and work up, then the other way.

the battery fund will continue to grow the more time you put in.

Congratulations on your first hunt!

Hulk looks like he didn't want to be found. Don't turn your back on him!

Yeah buddy! Volleyball courts can be awesome good fun. Pretty sure there's some silver left down there in your neck of the woods waiting for you too!

Good going Marvin!

Volley ball sand pits can produce some gold and silver jewelry so keep going back.
You never know when it will pop up but it will.
Dig everything in the sand since it's easy to dig and you will be rewarded!
Another good spot would be around the swings in parks - parents rings sometimes fly off their hands when pushing the kids on the swings.

Welcome to the addiction...
You made out better than I on my first hunt...
As others said...keep hitting that sand from time to time...
Just think....another few hundred nails and you can build
a small shed...
Good luck out there...
