the way clan member's could tell another member's house was they would have a Black locust tree and a Yucca plant in a certain location in their yards. The clan member's would then stop at the house and rest or eat a meal. If a house had only one of the two plant's,then it meant that the people in the house weren't clan member's but they were friendly.Black locust tree do not grow around here much and Yucca's come back ever year. In the area i am from Jackson , TENN. Maybe this will help with some of the John Murrell stuff.

White Locust meant to not stop there because the folks were unfriendly to outlaws.

Thats intersting. In the gold rush days the Chineese came into Northern California and used the pods of the black locust tree for packing their Chinaware etc. many relic & gold hunters looked for the black locust tree as a sign of once a Chinaman's camp. In French Gulch North Cal and Anderson since the mid 1800's we have a lot of black locust trees which are not of natural to the state of California but brought in like the grapes from the French and the blackberry with thick thorns which kill the native berry bushes. Chinese were not Mystic Clan here.
