Nate's finds at the Berg/Saturday

Hey guys, like Dan said, the four of us visited the Berg today. The weather felt awesome. I ended up with 81 wheats, mostly from the wheatfield, and 3 mercs and a war nickel elsewhere. One thing I thought was uncanny...I was actually getting bitten by mosquitos at one point...BIG ones too! Anyway, didn't expect to get so much; the stuff really seems to thin out outside of the wheatfield now.
Here's what the table looked like after I spent well over an hour scrubbing each wheat penny individually. Ugh, lol

Geez! I don't know what to say! That is a haul and a half there!

Super job on the cleanup, those wheats came out nice.

Silver is always good, and love those Canadian small cents, only need 7 more to complete set.

I strongly second that opinion, they really do look great!
It's obvious from the first photo though that it took a bit of work getting them there, nice job.
I hope the "Berg" still holds a few surprises for you guys, I'm confident it will, it just may take a little more persistence to pluck 'em out.

Congratulations,

Johnny

Killer haul Nate...

I think I'm gonna buy stock in Q-Tips. If you keep pulling Wheats out I can retire (again) in no time!

The silver is great!

So your method on cleaning those is ammonia and cotton swabs? Nice results! I had heard about peroxide before but not ammonia.

That's right (peroxide would probably work just as good) , and then olive oil makes em look nice after cleaning. I do the same to IHs.
Thanks for the comments all. HH

Yeah, those skeeters are starting to come out of hibernation, and they are hungry. They are so bad in the summer here in North Carolina that they can actually keep you from hunting a site. Deep Woods Off or the equivalent is a necessity in the MDing gear here in the summer.

Congrats on the nice finds, too.

Nice job on the wheatbacks. Normally, I cringe when people clean coins. I have to admit, I clean my wheaties too. Not much value and they do look alot better. I clean mine in a similar fashion. Well done again.

Lol - I actually took the last pic. Nate took a couple but didn't like his close up of the silver. So I threw together a quick one. It just needed a different background. Gotta put a little contrast/color with silver. But I must admit, he did good on the other pics. :)

Nate - Nice job on the triple mercs and war nickels. You showed Dan and I up on the silver for the day.

Wow Nate, love those great pictures you and your dad took. I'll have to try that Q-tip thing. Looks like a winter job to me. But the way this last winter went, I'll have to move to Minn. too clean them. LOL
