Today i stoped by the library, and decided to thumb through a book about this area in the early 1900's. (that is about as old as it gets here on the oregon coast). Anyways i happened to see a picture of a man standing on a big rock. The caption read something like "John doe standing on the medicine rock. Local indians believe that the medicine rock has healing powers". Big deal right? well i decided to read the little paragraph on the rock out of couriosity, and it turns out that the rock was quite a big attraction to the settlers. An Indian legend has it that presents left on Medicine Rock would bring the giver good luck. Fisherman going up and down the river would throw coins at it. the first thing i thought was SILVER!!!!(i havent been graced by any yet) but then i began to wonder if detecting the surrounding area might be a litttle sacreligious. I mean it was supposed to be pretty sacred and what not.

What do you guys think? any tips if i do go detect it?

Being of Amerindian descent myself, I wouldn't hesitate to search around the spot, just be sure to leave it a present before your search, and one after, if you do well.

If you want to run the risk of angering the Old Gods of the forest...

Just kidding. I would maybe contact the historical society, or perhaps there is some kind of Native American group in the area you could talk with??

Leaving presents for it yourself is also a good idea!
