All of the videos and reports of beach hunting I have seen have shown people finding all of their jewelry in the water. My Fisher's display box isn't waterproof but the coil is. Should I take the risk and go out in the water for the goods? If so, how deep should my limit be? Remember, my display isn't waterproof so if it gets wet its over.

P.S.- Is the dry sand even comparable in productivity to the water?

Just be careful not to get the control box wet and you might do alright in shallow water . I've had some success having done that in the past. To answer the 2nd part of your question .. depends on the beach . Soft deep sand can hide the goods in a hurry.Good luck.

if you think you are going to hunt the water - than just get a water machine - dont take chance on ruining your land machine
I personally used to get a ring once in a blue moon in wet and on dry sand - part ofthe reason is the amount of people on the wet/dry detecting back then
I have found 50 times the amount of gold in the water than I got on land - now a lot of those guys have abandoned the dry for the water
and some beaches are better in the dry caUse the water gets pounded NOW -

all gold there is just a small sample of my gold all found in the water

First thing is i think you have a single freq machine..... it might be ok for fresh water, but not salt. You get more rogue waves out there than you think even at the waters edge. Water WILL go up the shaft and never put the coil above the box. There are finds made on the beach, but those finds for me are seasonal and you are competing with anyone having a detector. There is a lot more trash to dig thru as well on the beach. Casper is right the numbers are growing fast for water hunters and its getting quieter and quieter out there. If you want to water hunt now days...... you best have some time on your hands or know some spots others dont.

Well I would purchase a water machine but I only go to the beach like once a year so I won't upgrade for a while.

I would stick to the dry sand. I wouldn't take the chance ruining your detector. Good finds can be hiding anywhere. I've found gold in chest deep water and on the way to the parking lot, you just never know. I've had some great dry sand hunts.

BTW my avatar was found in the dry sand. 16.9 gr 18k Tiffany ring found 20 minutes after I hit the beach. I also found a 70 gr Silver bracelet towards the end of that same hunt.

Cool, I'm hoping to get in at least 10 hours of hunting while I'm there. I'm hoping that I can find at least one piece of jewelry. Since my machine is single frequency I probably wont even be able to hunt near the water, much less get in it. That's what I've heard anyway, I have only tried hunting in a freshwater creek so I have no idea what is going to happen in the salt.

something very important, do not point your coil up when you dig!! if you do the water in the shaft will go into the head. not good!!
