got this B & BURNHAM 1834-1843 in New Paltz NY farm field. it was on the surface of hay field that was disced the day before, dated from back mark that is Benedict & Burnham of Waterbury Conn. is it civilian or mil.?, purpose and value needed. IMG_0274.JPG IMG_0272.JPG 12 to 13 16ths

Benedict & Burnham made some of the finest fancy gilted Civilian buttons ever made in my opinion. The patterns and the quality of the gilt were outstanding. I have dug a number of the "flower" button type as well as the 1840 Harrison Log Cabin Campaign buttons they made. Yours is a nice example of one of their civilian "flower" buttons. Very little value though.
