So I found a stash of old buttons but I need help identifying a couple.

1. This is a brass eagle button. I think it might be civil war, but I could be totally off.

2. I'm pretty sure this a Marine button, but I can't find any other that are two toned.

3. Another beautiful brass eagle

4. My husband says these are air force, but he is a former air force person so he is bias! LOL

Welcome to the forums. I would have to say that Nos. 1, 3 & 5 are civilian fashion buttons. I have found one reference to No. 4 as being an Air Force Reserves button but that was e-bay and I don't put a lot of stock into the claims posted there. As for No. 2, it does look Marine but I have my doubts about it as well. Again, it could be civilian but I will wait for someone more knowledgeable than me to confirm or deny that identification.

Thank you for the reply I appreciate you taking a look at the photos. My grandmother and mother collected these buttons for years, I literally have 6 pounds of buttons that I sort through and trying to figure. I appreciate the feedback. :D

I agree, but with that many to go thru, don't give up, you may have a rare piece yet.

I've found button of that style that go back to the mud 30's. I find this button the most intriguing, but it doesn't have an anchor rope:

It is a lot of buttons, my husband said it is feeding my OCD and need to sort everything and put it in order. Than there is the identification...... it never ends! You should see the 6 boxes of Jewelry that came with the buttons. The buttons seemed less overwhelming to start with! LOL

First find the buttons with back marks, those are the easiest to identity and might be collectable. Here's what a few buttons with a back mark looks like. I'm not a button expert but I know a little, I've posted a couple of junk buttons too, they don't have loops on the back or the back is rusted out or severely corroded:

I have these with a back mark, but I think it is in Russian. Very hard to get a good photo of because of the size.

The back mark info should make those identifiable. But the shank/nipple on the back is a sign that I take puts those buttons in popularity beginning in the mid 1930's. But it still could be a sought after collectable button. Here's 3 buttons with similar backs to yours, my favorite is the white beaded button top left, the 2 buttons on the bottom have desirable traits that a beginner like me looks for:

Button #4 ID here....On Treasurenet....By Montana Jim

Waterbury Button Company
Fashion Button - Non military (still made today)
Pattern # 26822 Wings & Propeller

#2 I am thinking fashion button, with the absence of the rope (Fouled Anchor), no reason a USMC button would be that way. I could be wrong though, just my educated opinion.

#1 I am thinking fashion button also, the wings are straight and stubby, not up/raised drooped/folded like on typical military buttons. Shield looks to be void of stars/stripes or alpha code like I, A or C. I could be wrong though, just my educated opinion.

#3 Might be another fashion button, I am not sure on this one though. Again I could be wrong though, just my educated opinion.
