Looks like black flint. Its always good to tell where you found it as in a creek and what state. Welcome to the site! Ill show you a finished piece of black flint. The Indians loved it here in GA.

found it in south central pa, in middle of woods by a log i was sitting on squirrell hunting. no streams nearby.

Thousands of yrs ago there were many streams in places all over not like today. Also it could of been carried to the spot you found it in by anyone.
