I purchased this rock slab years ago at a rock store. I need help identifying it. Any help would be appreciated.

Can you scratch it with a sharp knife. Is it heavy for it's size. Is it magnetic?
If you rub it on the underside of a toilet lid (Porcelain) what color is the mark if any?
All this stuff is SOP for IDing rocks.

Non magnetic, 86.4grams. Its a brown, possibly black color when I rub it against porcelain.

brownish/red streak with the appearance I would say specular hematite. At first glance looks like granite. Can you do a hardness test? if it's 6+ it's probably granite. Could be a few other things though, but those are my thoughts...

scratching with a knife like Hvacker said would help for the hardness unless you're comfortable doing a more pointed hardness test to try to narrow it down better

no problem :) how did you find that out? If you're relying just on my guess I wouldn't take that for gospel because it may not be correct, just seems to be the most likely answer. Someone ID it for you in person or a different site?

It looks exactly identical to the slabs I see on google images. Just my own conclusion.
