Need help in setting metal detector

This particular area is mostly about coin collecting. You might get a better response if you post on one of the metal detecting areas on this site. FWIW

To keep it simple I would raise my RX gain up until the point of chatter then back it off a notch or two. On my V3i the stock setting was only 7. I now usually run 12-13.
I also turned my VDI tones off for most -VDI numbers in coin and jewelry (below -7) and changed the tones for my positive VDI numbers to be the same for every block of 10 (50-59 is one tone, 60 to 69 is another) which allows me to ID better by sound over stock.
If you are looking for coins use the spectrograph. I have found it to be very accurate in telling me what is a coin (or coin shape) and what is not.
