I pulled this button at a colonial-era site this evening that we have hammered to death. I found it closer to the road because we tend to avoid that area due to the road trash that blows in, but it's different than most of the buttons we've found there because it's got a back mark and it's in good condition! Mostly what we pull are just unmarked flat buttons.
The back mark is Booth & Brooks - Baltimore... can anybody help me date this? The front is plain but the same color. I am assuming it's newer than most of the buttons we find there.
Also, what could it be made out of? I almost never get shiny buttons, so that was the first thing that struck me as odd...the second is that it's HEAVY compared to others I've dug of this size. I don't think it's gilded because I assume it would be noted in the back mark, but then again I've only ever found one gilded button before, so I really don't know.
It came in high on the 3030 too at about 12-41 or so.
