Bottle experts can you guys look at this bottle I picked up a few days ago.

Here and there I grab some bottles if I find them for a decent price. I know the one has no embossing or markings but can you tell me if it was water or soda or what it contained.

It will only lay on its sides. Has 3 or 4 small flat spots in the glass. Has some serious bubbling also.

Any thing you can add would be great.

Thanks

Jer

Looks like what they call a fiasco italian wine bottle or a chianti. Would have had a weaved basket as a base.

I agree it looks like a fiasco bottle.

You didn’t mention the Stretton Hills Mineral Water bottle, so it’s not clear if you already know the history. The company bottled sparkling water from the Cwm Dale Spring at Church Stretton in Shropshire in the west of England from 1883. That Hamilton torpedo bottle was in use until the first decade of the 1900s, when it was superseded by a flat-bottomed version that could be stood up in use, although still intended to be transported and stored on its side to keep the cork wet and preserve the carbonation.

Thank you both for the info.

Yes, you nailed the I.D on the bottle.

Would this bottle have been made in Italy.

And would it date to the 1800s.

Thank you for the info on the mineral water.

That one was a little easier to research since it had some info on it.

I love these style bottles. I am out a lot and see a ton of glass but hardly ever see these styles.

Thanks again guys.

Nice,

Amazing it wasn't broken. I felt when I was driving if I hit one pothole this bottle was going to explode.

Yeah I know bottles pretty well. Have dug and found a lot of them over the years. I suspected this bottle to date to the 1890s.

What kind of value would you place on that type of bottle.

I paid 10 bucks for the mineral water and saw that same one going on ebay with bids at 20.00.

Thanks,

Jer
