I went further back into the lot and I see a tree down from today?s storm. I swiped my coil through the roots and got a decent signal. I dug this W T Howell and Co Philadelphia insignia with a horse and rider. I googled up the name and found this company listed in the Philadelphia directory and they made and imported guns. My question is what kind of item would this insignia be attached to? Thanks for looking and any input.

Interesting finds FF, I did some research and found this link... https://hglanham.tripod.com/usartillery/usartillery1.html
It details the Evolution of United States Army Artillery Insignia.

My first thought when I saw the 'W T Howell and Co Philadelphia' insignia, I thought it might be a saw button? :icon_scratch:

Sounds like that site still has a lot of potential.

I am not sure what the oval shaped piece went to but W.T.Howell was a hardware store who operated out of Philadelphia from 1834-1847. I found this on another site: HOWELL, W. T. & CO.
Lock makers of engraved flintlocks for Kentucky rifles. Also makers of a full stock, brass inlay, Kentucky type flintlock rifle.
