Need some tips

I read a lot of the post on here and people say to listen for the faint tones for deep objects. I have dug several faint signals but when disturb the dirt(start digging) i lose the signal. I will scan the dirt i have dug but nothing. What should i be hearing to know there is something there. Thanks

first what type of detector are you using and what settings ? -- often esp if your running full bore or with a cheaper type detector you will pick up pockets of minerized soil -- as you dig into them it disturbs the pocket of minerailzation thus breaking it up causing it to no longer pick up --- similar to the way coins that have been in the ground often have a halo effect due to metal or minerals leeching off them --- hope this helps ---Ivan

Thanks guys i am using a tejon just above the all metal mode everything i have dug has been a solid hit but nothing over four or five inches.
