Judging the guard on the right (centre) I would say it is French, as I have found two of them on my favorite french "button Field " near Wbn. the buckle down (left) is a hat or stock buckle.

folkert,

Are we going to hook up sometime soon?? I'm planning on hitting that site again this week. Let me know if you are interested. Still want to get up to Hanau where there are some good sites from a guy that used to detect there years back.

Great finds - I think finding a sword or any weapon that was used in combat would keep you laying awake at night thinking of all the what-ifs about its history. Well done.

cool stuff! I have been looking for a french sword or bayonet out here forever! The only things I have found from that period are musket balls and cannon ball pieces. HH!
