Well I finally did it! I found my first Seated Liberty Half Dollar! After 25 years in the hobby I finally dug one! It's dated 1854 with a New Orleans mint mark! Also dug out a silver dime that was damaged by a lawn mower. We hunted the back end of a very obscure park not many people know about. I hunted it all day with my hunting partner Dick. Seated liberty half was only 3 or 4 inches deep, when I first saw it I thought it might be a clad Kennedy half! Boy was I wrong!

Congratulations on the Seated Half! I know what a thrill it is as I found my first one last year.....in the same hole with a seated quarter. Way to go!

It was a long time coming, but you persevered and found one of your holy grails. Congratulations to you! Hope the next one takes you much less time to find.

It is good to hear that these still turn up occasionally, still it could be a once in a lifetime find, at that depth lots of people just might say soda can and keep going too! I will keep on digging and count every clad quarter found a small victory myself even if a Seated Half never appears!

Thanks! There is nothing like finding the seated coins. These are especially hard to find on the west coast, I average only one seated dime a year. The halves never show up. I've been a member of two metal detecting clubs for over 25 years and only three seated liberty halves have been found during that time. Now I know what bowling a 300 feels like!

Wow, what a find!

I notice Dick has his coil on backward, why does he do that? Is it a balance thing?
