New 1800's House Has Potential. 1912, 925 Sterling Silver Spoon With A Date

Good evening fellow members. I had an ace in the whole for over a year and didn't even know it ??? My cousin moved into an old house built in the mid-1800's and I forgot to ask him if I could hunt it. Of course, he said. So I headed out there in the wide-open country on a beautiful day. However it has been super dry lately and his yard was like a field and needs to be cut badly. :-\ I'm sure he'll have no problem with me cutting it as he is a busy carpenter and has a wife a 3 kids. I'll have to cut it down real good as it was hard to detect. The house resembles the old J.A. McDonald home in Woodstock that I did so well hunting but this one is wood, not brick. However i did find a few keepers in the short time I was there. I found an old spoon. Looks like pewter. I also found a few wheat's, 1917, 1946. I also found an old shell casing and an old Appalachian Trail thingy. I also acquired another site to hunt while I was visiting my relatives. She said, you should come over to our place and hunt............and I said, WHAT :D It's an old farm too. So now I have 2 new places and a few more leads as I have been lazy asking and my other old spots are running dry :-[ Have a good remaining weekend and get out there and hunt :laughing7: Ron Smith

As I was just looking at the spoon on my post I noticed a date of 1912 and the day and year which I can't make out. Look closely at the handle and you will see it. It is upside down in the picture. I just re-checked it and It is August 25, 1912 :o

Nice spoon. I better check the one I found . it may be silver also. I really did not clean it up that good. Now I will lol WTG Good hunting :icon_thumright:

I thought it was just a junk spoon at first. You have to look real careful as the letters are very small and hard to see. I had to use a magnifying glasss and it was still hard to see. The more I washed the dirt off the more I found. The date was engraved on the shank and that was filled with dirt. Check it good ::)

Thanks for sharing the pics, John. I guess they made more than 1 ;D Only difference is that mine had a special date. May have been a wedding spoon or something special

I bet your right. I would think sterling flatware was not cheap in 1912 and would have been for a special event or occasion. Either way there is allot of silver in those spoons. Probably close to a silver dollars worth. I would definitely work that yard some more.

I have to get my lawn mower over there whenever the rain showers stop :-[
