Welcome to Tnet, I am sure the owners manual may recommend that you take some coins and maybe some trash items. Lay them on a patch of ground that is quiet and sweep your coil over them to see how they register on your detector. Pay attention to the Target ID number/s that each coin or target gives as well as the tone. Experience is the best teacher. Dig all targets until you feel you understand the tones and target IDs. The more you swing the coil, the less trash you will dig.
