Check out the links from the Nome Vistor Center about NEW rules for mining the Sea at NOME. Stuff like adding 3 more permit agencies, for a total of 5 permits, Must report Gold take (sales). Limit on suction nozzle size,, limits on pump HP sizes, only one suction dredge per vessel, and they are going to limit ownershipr (?). A person can only own interest in one rig on a percentage basis. If he owns part of 2 rigs or more, the others, if used must be rented out on a fixed rate contract, not on a percentage. 6 inch on one area, 8 inch dredge on the other.
www.visitnomealaska.com then click on Gold Dredging and then click the 4 or 5 links for the details.

I am sure that the Bering Sea Gold Reality show has made a number of people hungry to get all that easy to get free gold that is right off the coast of Nome. Its a great series, it shows many ways you can get killed and just how nasty it can be to work the ocean. Some people do quite well, but then again, the series does not a talk lot about how much it costs to run one of these ocean dredges, cost of permits and claims, or take into account how often the ocean conditions prevent you from getting out on the water to work.

with all these gold shows and the high price of gold, its got people thinking they can get rich quick with little or no training/education. and then they find out it takes a lot of work and more ewquipment that just a pan to make any $$$$$$ so they give up and sell off their equipment cheap and go bsack to their 9-5 day job!
