Being fairly new to bottle digging and collecting I was wondering how most of the community go about cleaning the bottles and glass that they find? Examples of what I'd like to know are:

Thin and narrow necks/bottles
Bottles with paper labels or intact caps (not very likely but possible)

And just any bottle cleaning tips in general would be greatly appreciated!

I use copper wire cut up into small pcs. I can't tell you what size or gauge it is, sorry. The diameter of the wire is about the size of a toothpick. I have about 5-6 tablespoons of it that i've managed to collect. I pour the copper shot into the bottle and add a little water, just enough to cover the shot. Cover the mouth of the bottle with your thumb and start shaking it. you can use the shot over and over. I've heard lead shot from shotgun shells works well too

Alright, i'll try that. Any cleaners that I could use? Dish soap probably or is that fine by itself? I've just heard of people saying that they've spent over an hour cleaning one bottle.

We use lead shot from a shotgun shell.I wouldn't go crazy while shaking, you could easily crack or bust your bottle.

copper coated bbs work well. lead shot can leave marks inside. C L R works good you can get it at ACE or most hardware's

I'm with bottles10 on lead shot. Don't do it.

I use dug copper wire, cut up in little pieces, with a few dashes of Bar Keeper's Friend, a little water, and a buncha shaking.

I should add that no one has accused me of having skills in the cleaning department.

I guess we better get rid of the lead shot and cut some copper wire up.We find plenty of that while we're digging.
Like I said before,we're new it this.
