New to this CW field detecting....didnt do too bad for a first I guess

Well I moved from the hills of NY to the coast of North Carolina and have had poor results beach detecting the outer-banks. Especially with the weather this year, the beaches havent been cutting at all and with the extra sand from Hurricane Irene, targets are few and far between most days. SO I decided to take a trip inland to some family land which I have been told had Civil War regiments camping on it at one point in time and do some field detecting, also something new to me (i'm a woods/cellar hole kind of guy). Set out around 7 am and got there around 9 am and hunted for the majority of the day. Sometimes zig zagging looking for target concentrations, sometimes just walking the plow lines, but always enjoying the sun and 65 degree weather in January! Finds were ok, large fields and only one day to detect so I was digging only choice targets. Buttons and few coins and little brass items were all that I was able to pull from the soil, but I have high hopes for the site. If any of you have insight on to what some of the items are that would be much appreciated And as always, Good Luck and Happy Hunting

Nice assortment of finds. Check those shotgun shells out as some may be old. Post some close up pics of them, there are some knowledgable folks here that can give approximate ages to them.

Nice Finds! There was a 3 day battle in a town called plymouth in 1864. Spent a day there when i was at LeJeune and found my 1st CW finds. 2 Minis 1 shot musket ball and a cavalry cuff button. Found them in the city Park. also researched a skirmish near maysville. If interested I'll give you the info I remember.

3rd row down, far left is an umbrella parasol from the CW timeframe.. based on the looks of those finds, there very well could have been some CW camping on that property, especially with the General Service eagle button

Since you don't show any bullets found I am guessing it is an old home site, not a CW site. The eagle button could have come off of most Yankee's coat but not necessarily during the CW.

Nice assortment of finds. I dig a lot of those shotgun hulls as well and I hope they ain't worth much because I have thrown hundreds of them away.
