I've been interested in MD'ing for a while now, not sure how to get started, is it as easy as going to walmart, picking out a device, and heading to some plot of land? What are your recommendations for a MD? I'm a student, so my budget is very limited for now, but I would like somthing that will not put me at a major disadvantage. I am more interested in civil war artifacts, but being that I live in South Florida (Palm Beach County), it doesn't seem like there's much hope for me down here 'till I make a trek up near Jacksonville. But, we have plenty of beautiful beaches I would scower. Are there any places down this way where I might find some more historic items? I basically need a startes kit, where to go, how to use the MD, things like that. Thanks for the assistance!

Welcome to Tnet, two of the best beginner detectors are the fisher f2 and Ace 250, they are the two that won't break the bank but are very good to start out on. Do some research on them and hope to see your posts soon.
