went to an old school today and dug everything that was 4" deep or more did not care what the signal was, dug a bunch of nickels, few pulltabs, can slaw, etc.......

got a nice screaming 01-44 signal and I NEVER expected to find what I dug up....a nice old railroad Lock. :hello2:
I think it is possibly Canadian National Railroad, anyone?

Found a couple 1940's wheats, a junk locket, and lastly a old looking button. Back is rusted away. Any ideas on this button?

Nobody wants to touch the button, so I will stick my neck out for the punishment. Especially since these have been beaten like a red headed step child in the last few weeks.

Not military. Card of two at JoAnn's for around a buck 69. The company has been making them for 125 years or more, several different styles but still not military. But your description of "old" certainly can qualify.

Nice lock, and not having ever found one of any quality, my question is, can the insides actually be loostened up to work again? I have no idea what they are made of.

insides are all brass, and everything all works smoothly now, but without a key I am sure NOT gonna lock it!

I was going to say the locksmith thing, also. May have to go through a lot of keys, but when you hit....BINGO. I was looking for a key to a trunk lock and got lucky. I don't think there were many "combinations" for those keys.
