I went out to test my new MXT at a well hunted site and did pretty well. I found two flat buttons (one marked "M & Co." on the back), a pewter canteen spout (marked J. C. Johnson & Co. Feb. 5. 65.), and this interesting shield item. It is made out of cast brass or bronze and appears to be very well made. Does anyone know what this piece might be? Is it military or civilian? How old? Also, any info on the button backmark would be geatly appreciated. Anyway, I am very pleased with my new machine! I see many good relics in this MXTs future!

Well her e is what I know, no one knows for sure what the items were used for. Lots of speculation however and a saddle ornament is a good guess. Here is one I found in DEC 2010. Yours is most interesting with the shape though real neat find!

This one was found last April in the woods at one of our oldest sites. I was wondering what it was myself :icon_scratch:
But i think you guys solved that problem, Bridal or saddle ornament for sure.
