We were digging a gas line in a yard that I've detected before, but going down 18 inches is a whole lot different than detecting the top 8-10 inches! So I found this guy with no detector, no pin-pointer, no nothing. Just a shovel and my eyes. Guess I've been looking at a lot of dirt lately, and I've been seeing round coins in my dreams!

Awesome! It still counts as a great find! Sometimes when I find it without any tools I wish I had found it with the aid of tools.Maybe it’s just me.

Congratulations !

That's in real nice shape. I wonder if being down deep helped preserve it. I like the Indian Head pennies from the Civil War years, and that's a good one. Congrats.

That's a beaut!
I found an 1867 nickel once when I was mowing our yard. It was under a large tree just laying there as pretty as you please. That was in 1967 because I remember thinking it was exactly 100 years old. Our neighbor 1/2 mile down the road collected coins so I sold it to him for $3. That was pretty good money since I got $1 an hour pushing the mower in the hot sun. I was 16 at the time.

Cool score, Littleman! While I’ve dug a bunch of Indians, I’ve yet to pop a Fatty. One week I dug two ‘65’s... still in search of fatness lol... Nice eyeball save. Ddf.

Hmmm, and to think of all the $$$ I've spent on so many metal detectors! Nice find, Congrats!
