On pontiled marbles, you will have glass manipulation around the pontil. The glass will converge to the pontil, so it's more than just a mark found in a random spot on the glass. On a marble without the pontil shown, you should be able to look at the pattern of the glass, the bubbles, the tool marks, and determine where the pontil will be before turning it to actually see it. Then you have faceted, ground, and fire polished pontils, along with rough untreated pontils. Pontil is actually an incorrect term anyway, but that's the word we use, so...

This marble is polished, so you can't see the pontils anymore... but you can see exactly where it would be(where the lines all come together):

They aren't shown in this pic either, but you can know there is a pontil at top left and bottom right just by the glass:

All of these have pontils. Two per marble. You can see how the glass converges at every one. Even the blue marble without swirls.

Tx for info on "pontils". (I copied and pasted into my marble notes document!) I don't see where you ID'd the mib I pictured on this one. It is neat to me the way the orange runs along the red ribbons..rather pretty. I would love to know what maker it is.

Well, I keep thinking Alley but I get a nagging feeling that it's Ravenswood, so I'm not sure. If I was gambling on it, I'd say Alley.
