Non silver 1943 nickle??

They started in 1942, so I don't think so. If an old planchet was laying around, maybe, but it'd be a rarity. Don't know how you could tell other than weighing, but my Redbook doesn't list a seperate weight for the wartime variety, just 5 grams across the board for all Jeffersons.

Since posting I have found mention of them in my 07 redbook, and a few sights, but no price. I have one that rung up like a nickle (Not silver) when dug, and it sure dont look silver, I will know more soon as my buddy has it, I will weigh it and check the mint mark also, since it was our only coin found in his yard I gave it to him, now we are finding this out.
