Seaboard is a great place to hunt. The Civil war railroad went right thru there ! I'm over in Bertie County. There are some old maps of that county from 1863 online. search for "gilmer maps"

Hey Gizmo I grew up in Southampton county Va. That is just North of Northampton NC. Confused yet? Are you any where around Mufreesboro, NC? Lots of good history in those parts, big old country homes and buildings.

Some CW battles took place around there also.

Here is a link to 2 Va clubs in Hampton, and Va Beach. You are only about 1 1/2 hour from these. Shoot them an e-mail and see if anybody is near you.

Also check this place.

Might find some good early history in here.

Here is one more link I found.

Good luck to you. I plan on getting home for about a week near Christmas. If the weather is good maybe we can do a hunt. My dad owns a bunch of property in Va (Shouthampton County). I would be more than willing to take you to one of his farms, Beale.

Let me know when you will be down and maybe we can get together to do a little mding. Maybe the weather will be cold enough by then. We still have snakes crawling around. I am about 15 miles from Murfreesboro so maybe I can get something going on in that area. Thanks for all the info. I will keep you posted
