After work today I hunted an older homesite, which I believe was built during the 1920s-1930s. In the 2 hours of detecting I found 18 total coins including the 2 pictured Wheat cents. I also found an interesting Northrop Loom Patent Plate. It was IDed as a copper cent. I do believe it to be copper or brass (based on the patina), that was painted black by the manufacturer. On the rear of the plate is a serial number LM 6079. I believe LM to stand for loom. After researching the company, I found out that Northrop Looms were created as the first automatic looms, and manufactured over 700,000 of these looms. They were distributed by Draper Mills, which had several mills in my area. Still I felt that it was an unusual find for a rural homesite. If anyone has any more information on the patent plate please let me know.
