I haven't dug any either, and I am hunting for them too.

The one and only shield I found rang in at 60 on VDI

ive never dug a Shield...But the V-Nicks i have dug were all Dead on 52-53's.....I have dug a couple Buffalos in the 60s range...which was odd, but i figure maybe there was iron close or something

Thanks guys for the info , good luck and good hunting !

Also...it wasnt mentioned...But with the ATP...I have noticed even Silver nickles can read on teh same numbers as modern nickles...I would have thought it would have been much higher

I have dug war nickels ans Buffalo nickels and for me they all were 52 -53 just figured the v nickels had to ring up differently that's why I haven't found any. We'll the day will come just have to work at it a little harder!

Having found two in my entire life and both being in sorry shape I'd say it's not worth it really.

i disagree the one I found was in bad shape but I was very excited to find out it was a 1867 shield nickel. Def in my top 5 finds.

Dug a V-nickol about a month ago, showed as a 50 at 6 inches with ATPro....pretty rough condition but held pretty stable at 50.

My one and only v nickel reads 52-53
