NY MOHAWK SCRAPING KNIFE & A WHAT IS IT

Both these were found together about a foot apart in a creek bank not to far from lower mohawk indian villiage called OSSERNENON.Both pieces are slate,I have no idea what the second piece was used for,possiably grinding tool, any id help greately appreciated. Looks like the other stone is a sharpening stone for the knife.......would make sense, seeing how they were found close together.
