I dug up an Oklahoma Trade Token today, appears to be aluminum but it has some dirt or maybe soot, hardpacked on it in some areas. It has been soaking in water for about 2 days and none of it has flaked off, is there another safe way of cleaning up the token without scratching it all up or harming it? Ultrasonic cleaner maybe, or would that damage the coin?

Until a member jumps in - I would soak it in soap and hot water and gently rub off the dirt twiasp. Hey, how about a picture.

That is a sales tax token - in Oklahoma the proceeds from the sales taxes in 1936-37 were to provide "old age pensions". The crud on that token may never come off :sadsmiley: - how about keeping it in the condition "as found" and displaying it next to one in nearly uncirculated condition? Those can be bought on eBay and elsewhere for cheap.
