Old Batteries - 1930's?

I dug up three of these old batteries in a ruined farmhouse. Any guesses as to what company this might be? The 1930's perhaps...? T

The words I think I can make out are: "instruments", "used", "to give", and "chemical". But these are just guesses.

Thanks, fellow treasure hunters!

Can't really tell the size (helps to put a ruler or commonly known sized item in you photos) But it looks like a 6V dry cell battery. These were still in use when I was a kid, I think the last time I saw them was in the 1960s. I suppose you could coat them in shellac to help prevent further decay, but I don't think they'd be worth anything to anybody unless you just like them. I wouldn't want the stuff around the carbon cores to be in my house, they are batteries, and usually made of toxic chemicals.
