Old brass button???

I found this old button on a site where the British solders camped in 1814 before moving north in central Ontario Canada. I am not sure if it is an old button or not It sure looks like one. It has a bit of weight to it and it is metal. If anyone could let me know if it is a button and how old I would really appreciate it.........Don......
