I would be surprised if it is really a real real. However, how do you tell from a picture? Did you do a silver test?

Did you weigh this? Have you done a silver test on it? Did you try a magnet on it? Lots of possibilities, here. Let's try to eliminate some of them.
 

never know, i found one about that depth in the 80s that was counterfeit, still got it, many hours ive spent staring at it wishing it was real, but its crap haha

It's not silver, it appears to made of pewter with silver playing. Cause the edges are chipping off and look like pewter. That's why I was thinking a old counterfeit
 

What ever that turns out to be it would be an awesome thing to dig up. Cool find

So after lots of research I think it's a very early counterfeit of an 8 escudos gold coin. Pewter dipped in brass. I knew it looked gold plate not silver. Any value to it? I think it's still cool. And quite old
